About
THE ELECTRIC STORM COLLECTIVE
is a unique chamber ensemble that draws on the diverse musical experience of its 14 members to create a sound that is intimate yet expansive, nostalgic and new.
The collective was founded by composer Carlie Howell and poet Eva Tihanyi, to perform their collaborative work “When Lightning Strikes The River,” a narrative suite of 14 songs about the feminized queer experience, romance, partnership, friendship, mental health, depression, grief, redemption, spirituality, and ultimately, love.
The evocative lyrics of this suite are set to lush harmonies, organically shifting time signatures and intricate ostinatos, with strings, horns and percussion bringing to life the jazz, pop, folk, and Brazilian musical influences.
The members of this collective form an elaborate constellation of connections and working relationship between the 13 musicians. They each bring a unique set of musical backgrounds, skills, Each musician brings expertise on their instrument, experience as arrangers, composers, and bandleaders, contributing not only to the performance, but to the process itself.
